Poole & Poole Architecture
Multiple Multi-Family Apartments, Richmond, VA

Poole & Poole Architecture hired me to photograph key spaces within four of their recently completed multifamily apartment communities. Their goal was to create a collection of images for award submissions, with a focus on highlighting the architectural design and specific features that make each property unique.

The four-day assignment took place in Richmond, Virginia, and included Ace Apartments, Helios, The Guild, and The Alder. The total number of final images ranged from five to fourteen per property, depending on the scope and priorities for each community.

Overall, it was a wonderful project that ran very smoothly. While the weather shifted throughout the week, I remained in close communication with each property's management team, allowing us to adjust the schedule as needed and capture every planned image under the best possible conditions.

One of the biggest challenges was finding strong exterior compositions that weren't interrupted by overhead utility lines. In many cases, I intentionally composed the photographs with the wires in place, knowing they would be carefully removed during post-production. I also removed temporary leasing signage from many of the exterior images to create cleaner, more timeless photographs that keep the focus on the architecture.

Another important request from Poole & Poole Architecture was that the photographs not include people. Since these were occupied communities, that required patience and flexibility. Whenever residents entered a scene, I simply explained what I was photographing, and everyone was incredibly kind and accommodating, allowing us to create clean, uninterrupted compositions.

This was a rewarding collaboration, and I'm proud of the final collection of images. I'm grateful to the Poole & Poole team and the property managers for making the process so seamless, and I look forward to our next opportunity to work together.

We recently chose Paul to shoot a project for us in Charlotte, NC, and couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. From start to finish, Paul was incredibly professional, responsive, and easy to work with—even accommodating multiple rounds of edits without hesitation. He truly understood our vision and captured the space beautifully. The final photos are stunning and exceeded our expectations. We’re thrilled with the results and look forward to working with Paul again on future projects!

Working with Paul Lange on the photography for Gateway 737 was a pleasure. He was well-prepared and brought a calm professionalism to the two-day shoot. He went above and beyond to ensure we captured the best of the space. His attention to detail, creativity, and eye for composition truly shine through in the final images – they are exceptional. Beyond his technical skill, Paul was easy to work with and made the entire process enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend him.
